Basic Biscuits
These biscuits are our all-time favorites. They are DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEElicious!! :) Yields approx. 3 dz biscuits (small or 18 large biscuits) 2 tblsp yeast (or 1 packet) 1/2 cup lukewarm water 5 cups flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder 2 tbsp sugar 2 stick butter or 3/4 cup Crisco 2 cups Heavy Cream or buttermilk Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside. Mix dry ingredients together. Cut in butter/shortening. Add yeast and milk and mix it all up. You can either make drop bisuits (my preferred method) - get a portion in your hand and make a ball and then flatten it out - so it is a little circular flat disc. OR Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and roll out to desired thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. THEN: Place on greased cookie sheet OR cookie sheet lined with foil (love this!!) and bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown. | |||
